Freshney Place Market, Grimsby
Hayden and Emma have supported North East Lincolnshire Council in enacting their town centre masterplan, with a focus on the creation of a new Market Hall and Food Hall, reimagined public realm and large commercial units around Freshney Place Shopping Centre.
Their original work involved leading a detailed public engagement exercise with 1,250 respondents, stakeholder engagement with politicians and officers to support concept development for the scheme and business planning works for the market.
Based on the outcomes of the engagement exercise, a clear vision was developed for the Freshney Place scheme and the market hall, which went on to be successful in securing Levelling Up Funding from central government.
The project will have a transformative effect on Grimsby, creating an enhanced offer for existing and new users of the town centre, supporting the evening economy and creating a focal point for the community within the town centre. Grimsby is a town that faces significant challenges associated with deprivation, with proposals focused on creating opportunities for local people and a focal point for the town centre to attract new and diverse footfall based on industry precedents and customer feedback.
Next Phase are continuing to support Queensbury and North East Lincolnshire Council with the emerging design, including commentary on space allocation and operational planning to ensure the delivered scheme meet the aspirations of the project and the community.
